A beautiful, natural smile is something all our patients deserve. One of the simplest and easiest ways we can spruce up a minor imperfection is with cosmetic or dental bonding.
What is Dental Bonding?
Dental bonding or cosmetic bonding is a plastic resin we use to repair and restore small chips, cracks, stains and minor decay. As an added benefit, bonds are created right in our office and can be placed in one simple appointment.
Best of all, the material used in tooth bonding is custom-colored to match the exact shade of the damaged tooth and the surrounding teeth. Dr. Saxon will take his time molding the perfect bond so that the naked eye won’t be able to tell the difference between that and a natural tooth.
What Can Cosmetic/Dental Bonding Fix?
Cosmetic bonding can do the following things to restore your natural smile:
There’s little to no preparation that needs to be done before bonding begins, so Dr. Saxon will have you sit back in the chair and open wide before he gently etches the tooth to make it more receptive to the bond. Next, the custom-colored resin putty is carefully shaped to the perfect size and then locked into place using an ultraviolet light. The whole process typically takes less than an hour from start to finish.
Once you have your dental bond, you’ll need to be a little more careful with it than your other teeth. You should avoid biting or chewing on anything hard like ice or your fingernails, but if you can do that the bond will remain sturdy for several years to come.
